What story will your words tell?
Welcome to Creative Juicing, sinkhole’s brand spankin’ new creative contest blog. Every month, we’ll offer up a prompt for you folks to respond to, alternating between prose and poetry. It’s your chance to showcase exquisite, eloquent, absolutely riveting work, to bang the drums of creation, to make life more bearable, as Kurt Vonnegut might say. Check out the first prompt below, and remember - “say it well in good sentences,” (Sylvia Plath).
Guidelines and Selection
Respond to the prompt below in the genre (poetry or prose) indicated. Send an email with your submission attached to creative@sinkholemag.com. In the subject line, include “PROMPT, Last Name, Submission Title.” One submission per person, and standard sub requirements apply (double-spaced, Word doc or PDF only). There is no cost. Deadline for response is October 11th, 2018.
Our creative editors will read all the submissions and choose a winner. We reserve the right to choose multiple or no winners.
The winner will be featured in the following month’s Creative Juicing post, and will likely get a shout out over social media.
Prompt
Some of our favorite poetry prompts require the writer to include specific words in a poem. Half word association and half connect-the-dots in writing form, these prompts always inspire unique and unexpected images and connections. If nothing else, it’s fascinating to see what certain words can stir up from the depths of your psyche.
In this spirit, write us a poem that is no more than 25 lines and includes the words chimney, fetishize, Cheeto-dusted, and palanquin. What story will these words tell? We can’t wait to find out!
